Netball Win!

This afternoon the Woodend Year 5/6 A and B Teams played against Kaiapoi North School at Gladstone Park. Both teams won their games and really enjoyed the competition. There was such a lot of good team spirit from both sides. Well done girls!

On friday 18th of June I went to the disco. There were lots of people there and lots of my friends there. There were lots of different songs eg. Bob the Builder - Can We Fix It + Justin Bieber. My favourite part was dancing and listening to the songs and drinking fizzy.

Room 13 Libranans

A few weeks ago in my class (room 13) some people got to be libranans and they are Izobella , Jesse, Lily (thats' me), Zara, Brooke and Lucy. And what do librarians do exactly? They help people find books that are good for them. And shelve books. And last of all, they return and issue books. Miss Simpson gave the libraians a sheet of paper that has the times we are going on at lunch times and when we are on for a class and also who our partners are. Mine is Lucy. I like being a librarian but it's hard work but I still like it.

How to plant bulbs.

About 6 weeks ago we planted some bulbs. We planted all types of bulbs. We planted them in a Secret Garden!! We got the idea from our serial story The Secret Garden!! So we decided to plants some cool bulbs. We planted some daffodils, freesias and anemones. We were going to plant some sweet peas, but it is too late now. The Secret Garden, our serial story, was about a girl who came from India who's parents died of the cholera and she was sent to live with her hunch back uncle in England. While she was there she made lots of new friends and finds a Secret Garden that use to belong to her auntie before she died 10 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Awesome Disco

The disco was awesome. Many people went! Everyone enjoyed it. Rimu and Matai syndicates were there. Drinks, chocolate bars and lighting-up toys were for sale! Most songs were Rimu songs so....I didn't know them or dance to them. But I still liked it because I could buy lots of stuff! :). I bought a chocolate bar, a light-up penguin, a bag of salt and vinegar chips (not the ones that you get at fish and chips) and a drink of cola. It was a great DISCO!!!

Portraits in the Northen Outlook

On Wednesday 16th June, David and I had our photo taken for the Northern Outlook. Two people from room fourteen and two from room fifteen had their photo taken with us. It hasn't been in the paper yet. I can't wait for it to come out! The artist we learned about was Chuck Close. He did photo realism. He became paralised and used his paint brush by strapping it on to his wrist. He had a little bit of movement left in his arm and he then did abstract by doing blobs. His paintings were big. When you walked into an art gallery with one of his paintings in it, it would look real. But when you walked closer you could see that he used blobs in his paintings all the time.

Woodend School

Hi my name is Nic. Let me write about this stuff that makes this school cool:

1. Woodend have road patrol on busy roads so kids and parents can cross safely.The road patrollers have big bright signs that drives can see clearly.

2. We have wonderful teachers and staff so we can have fun. There's also the P.T.A that fundraise money for the school so we can cool stuff like computers,books,sport equipment and toys for classes.

3.We have kids that make lots of friends so nobody's lonely.

Kaiapoi Music Festival (Choir)

On Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd of June was the Kaiapoi Music Festival at Kaiapoi Bourough school. It was AWESOME! The Woodend instrumental group came to play some music as well. After the concert we got chocolate fish & lollies. On Monday Mr Barber (principal of Woodend School) came to do some speaking and on Tuesday the principal of Kaiapoi North School came to do some speaking too. We sang: Proud Mary, Taku Papawira, Six Months in a Leaky Boat, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, Daisy Bell, This Train, Chatanooga Choo Choo, Row Row Row Your Boat, Yellow Submarine, Up Up and Away, Sailing, Little Deuce Coupe and the National Anthem.The other schools got to sing at least two songs of their own. Also the Kaiapoi North School instrumental group got to perform as well. It was a lot of memorizing, but it was the most funnest thing I've ever experienced in my life!!!!

Bulbs

A bulb is a plant wrapped up in a material tissue. A plant needs food but bulbs are all set for the winter. They always have something to eat.

When you want to plant bulbs you can get different types of flowers. There are daffodils, anemones, freesias and tulips. But you don't have to feed bulbs because they have carbohydrates and scale leaves.

When you get them from the shops they don't have any roots so when you put them in the ground water them and leave them for a bit. And then water them the next day and when they start growing the roots will shoot out from the basal plate so don't take them out of the ground. During winter, they grow and in spring you will see a big change. You will see some green coming out of the ground and it might start growing flowers!

Out the back of Room 13 we have planted some bulbs: daffodils, freesias and anemones. We can't wait until they grow!

Coolest Ponies

Once upon a horse there lived a cool, black, awesome pony. He loved to do hip hop and one day he decided to join horse hip hop lessons. So off he went off to sign in. Then when the lady said, "right this way sir" he saw the coolest outfit he had ever seen in his life. BUT THEN the shop keeper came out and took it of the mannequin and put it in a sold bag. So the cool black pony ran after the nice bay pony and said ''Stop! Please sir, I really want that outfit so can I please have it," said the black horse. ''N.O. spells no so go away,'' said the bay horse. "I will trade you a free hip hop lesson for that outfit,'' said the black horse. ''NO spells NO, I want this outfit so much so NO,'' said the bay horse. ''I'll trade you my X box 3 60,'' said the black horse. "You've got an x box 360? Sorry, I've got an x box 3 60, so no,'' said the bay horse. ''I'll give you $100000 for the outfit,'' said the black horse." "You've got a deal!'' So the black horse went back into the studio and did the hip hop and wore the outfit everywhere. And he lived happily ever after.

Woodend school's new student librarians!

On Tuesday in week 3 the new librarians got trained in the "Information Centre" which we call the library.

In the library there are thousands of good books in the library!

There are chapter books, picture books, large books, non-fiction books and also early chapter books!

You get to borrow library books for 2 weeks only!!

Unless you want to return books earlier you can!

The open days of the library are: Tuesday,Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Librarians

A few weeks ago a few people in my class, Room 13 got to be librarians. Those people are me, Courtney, Izobella, Jesse, Lucy, Lily, Zara and Brooke. We got partners and assigned a class. Me and Izobella got assigned Room 4. We got a schedule from Mrs Simpson for lunch times and what time our class goes to the library and what day. We do lunch times every fortnight on Tuesday. We all get to do it next year too!!! Yay! We get to do our jobs in Term 3. We all have two or one senior to help us for the first two or three times. We will all enjoy being librarians for term 3 and 4 and next year.

A Special Friend

Hi I'm a librarian and my name is Izobella and I'm in Room 13. I'm going to talk to you about my librarian duty. OK then, here we go. Now my librarian partner is Miss Courtney Day. And she's WONDERFUL, just wonderful I tell you. She's 9 years old and Year 5 . She has a brother, NO sisters. A mother, a father and a cat called Stinie. I normally go to her house after school and the day I go to her house is on Thursday. And our class that we do library duty for is room 4, the teacher in room 4 I know her because, I used to be in room 2 and she taught me. I was a year 2 I think. When I first found out I was a librarian I was so so so so glad and proud and also, now I have got 2 badges.One green and one red. If I get an orange one it'll be traffic lights! So I'm now a librarian and I don't think i'll get an orange badge.

The Soccer World Cup

In the last few weeks we have bean filling in the soccer world cup poster. NZ did very well but we have now dropped out. But I reckon that Portugal will win with their high score of 7 against North Korea.

CANTERBURY ZONES

On Wednesday last week, me, Sammi and Johanna got through to the Canterbury ZONES!!!!! It was awesome. There was a round about one hundred and twenty people racing! OMG!!!! I came 18th, Johanna came 50th and Sammi came 84th. We all did very well! It was soo muddy we went to walk the course and when we got back my shoes were so gooey EWWW! my running was 2.2 km.

It took nine 9 minutes, twenty nine 29 WOW!!!!!!!!! I did not get through but my dad said he would sign me up for the Hanmer Springs! KOOL!!!! Can't wait!!!!!!!

Librarians

Hi everybody

It's so fun being a librarian because you get to shelve books, tidy things up and get to use the computer. I like to issue and return books for people. One day all of you should try and be a librarian because it's so amazing. Do you like books? Well if you do I love them. I always read at night from 7:oo to 8:00pm. Because I love to read!

Midnight for Charlie Bone

The main character is Charlie Bone and the secondary character is Uncle Paton. The setting is at Bloor's Academy and Charlie's house. The main events are going to Bloor's Academy and getting Dr Tolly's case from Miss Ingledew.

I thought the book was really cool because some of the children are endowed, which mean's they have special powers and Charlie is one of the endowed children. Charlie's endowment is he can hear voices from paintings and photos.
