Term 2

This term we did some cool stuff like planting bulbs and buddies. My favourite part was planting bulbs because I got to plant the last bulb. It was fun because now we have a secret garden. We haven't gone in it for ages. From Nic.

My best part of term 2

A while ago we read The Secret Garden. It was the illustrated version. Last week and this week we have started watching the movie . We finished it today. It was 1 of my favourite movies I had watched this year.

Bulbs

A bulb is a type of plant that grows over winter and comes up at spring. A bulb is a plant in a

package with every thing it needs. It's wrapped up with its food. It eats part of itself to survive.

A bulb has a plant inside itself.

Bulbs need lots of sunlight and water. Bulbs need very loose soil. A bulb has its own food to survive. To plant a bulb it takes time and work. The tunic protects the bulb. Inside a bulb is its food called scale leaves. On the bottom of the bulb is the basal plate. When the bulb is in the ground the roots come out of the basal plate. The tunic is just like tissue. In the very middle of the bulb there's this seasons leaves and flowers. When the bulb is in the ground and it has sunlight and water the leaves of the bulb will start to push itself up to the light. It comes up from the top. It takes two to three months to plant a bulb. When you plant a bulb it has to be in the ground about 5 - 10 cm.

Bulbs are a cool and interesting plant to have in your garden.

How to plant bulbs.

About 6 weeks ago we planted some bulbs. We planted all types of bulbs. We planted them in a Secret Garden!! We got the idea from our serial story The Secret Garden!! So we decided to plants some cool bulbs. We planted some daffodils, freesias and anemones. We were going to plant some sweet peas, but it is too late now. The Secret Garden, our serial story, was about a girl who came from India who's parents died of the cholera and she was sent to live with her hunch back uncle in England. While she was there she made lots of new friends and finds a Secret Garden that use to belong to her auntie before she died 10 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bulbs

A bulb is a plant wrapped up in a material tissue. A plant needs food but bulbs are all set for the winter. They always have something to eat.

When you want to plant bulbs you can get different types of flowers. There are daffodils, anemones, freesias and tulips. But you don't have to feed bulbs because they have carbohydrates and scale leaves.

When you get them from the shops they don't have any roots so when you put them in the ground water them and leave them for a bit. And then water them the next day and when they start growing the roots will shoot out from the basal plate so don't take them out of the ground. During winter, they grow and in spring you will see a big change. You will see some green coming out of the ground and it might start growing flowers!

Out the back of Room 13 we have planted some bulbs: daffodils, freesias and anemones. We can't wait until they grow!
