Earthquake

Hello my wee popsicles,

Thinking of you all and hoping you are managing to relax in your week off school!
I am fine thank-you Jenna. :-) My house was completely undamaged and I have been spending some time with my parents as they have been removing broken chimneys from their roof.
Have been in and visited Room 13 and it is absolutely fine, as is the rest of school. We are just waiting for the water to get the all clear.

I don't know about you guys, but I do wish the aftershocks would finish soon. They are a little bit scary, but at least they never last too long and they can't be as bad as the first one.

Hope you are all getting good sleeps.
Thinking of you all,
See you next week. :-)
Miss C.

Swimming

This term we have been going to Dudley pools. There's 4 groups. There are 3 proper pools, 2 spas and I think 1 swirly pool. It has been so fun. Our swimming class is room 6. The big pool is so deep. There's like a step half way through so you can stand on it, so you don't drown. I am in a group with Sammi R., Lydia, Rutger, and Nic. We do stuff like breast stroke, free style and back stroke and dives as well.Last week we got to
dive and try to get a giant ring but it was up to us we got to chose what on we did i did a stand up dive we could do kneel or sit or stand dive we do swimming every thursday.

Haiku

Last week we have been learning about Haiku. A Haiku is a type of poem. On the first line it has 5 syllables and the second is 7 and the last is 5. Here's mine:

At the golden bay
The puppies are being born
On a Sundy night .

Australia

In 12 days I am going to Australia.
I am very excited to be going and I get 200 dollars.
Im only going with my Grandma but Im visiting my Uncle.
Im going to be there for 8 days.
It will be so much fun.
I will go on lots of rides and go lots of places.
I am really happy.

IB CHALLENGE

Woodend School has just started a new home-work program, this is called the IB challenge. It is optional whether you do it or not so we call it home learning. There are 4 sections. They are: thinking, self-managing, team-players and creators. There are 24 challenges all together, that makes 6 in each group. Lots of people have decided to do it and I am one of them. It is lots of fun. Some people have already done some. When we finish all five (or more for the seniors) you get a badge that says you have done it. By Ashleigh.

Anger

Anger is red like a red evil apple.
It tastes like a bright red poisoned apple.
It smells like a burning house in the dark dark forest.
It looks like people fighting.
It sounds like people having a really bad day.
It feels like poison having a party in my body.
And it is very spooky.

Haiku

Last week we have been learning about Haiku. A Haiku is a type of poem. On the first line it has 5 syllables and the second is 7 and the last is 5. Here's mine:

At the golden bay
The puppies are being born
On a Sundy night.

Wind

Wind is white like snow.
It tastes like saltwater from the ocean.
It smells like the rotten seaweed from the sea.
Wind looks like a flash of speed.
And sounds like the ocean.
Wind feels like a large fridge on top of you and makes you cool.

Woodend Fair

At Woodend School we are having a school fair. It's going to be awesome. And we're having a Woodend Idol there. You can dance and sing, you can do anything.

LOVE

Love is red just like roses, or hearts.
Love tastes like chocolates wrapped in tin foil ready to eat.
Love smells like a boquet with a ribbons with flowers.
Love might be a dinner for two or a dance or going to the movies.
Love feels like what ever you can imagine.
Love is romantic.

Clip 'n Climb and Science Alive!!!

Clip 'n Climb in the morning and Science Alive in the afternoon! How is that?! Pretty cool if you ask me! It took us a long time to get in Clip 'n Climb to start with but it was worthwhile...., because the climbing walls were more improved, so that helped and I had been there two days before that too! So I was going straight to the zig-zag. I went up and down it. I was already tired after that. Karl was having a lot of luck. I could see that he was trying level two of them. (He was definitely improving, he was boiling.) I did the zig-zag. I was proud of myself when I had just about done all of the climbing walls. Then we went to Science Alive it wasn't better but at least we got to do something . We mixed iodine with powders/flours and acid. We were told a story and we recorded what happened when we start mixing the powder and acid. Then powder with iodine. And last of all the powder with the water! After we had done that we had some suspects of the story there were...., four suspects! That kind of made it harder because there was only one person from the story that wasn't a suspect! So in the story there was a powder on the door handle and a powder on the floor. We had to figure out if it was flour, baking soda, milk powder r plaster. And by using iodine, acid and water we could figure out what the powder on the door handle was and what the powder on the floor was. And with the recorded data we had with the other named powders the same effect would happen to be the same as one of the secret powders that were on the floor and on the door handle that would solve the mystery and that would solve the problem! After that we went back to school. After our adventurous day climbing, really high climbing walls at Clip 'n Climb and figuring mysteries with chemistry at Science Alive. Best day don't you think?

All Blacks

A wee while ago the All Blacks played their first test match this year aganst the Springbox in Dunedin Stadium. The All Blacks won. The score was 17-24 to the All Blacks. There were lots of yellow cards given out. I watched the game at home with my mum and dad.

Go the All Blacks!

On the seventh of August I went to the All Blacks game. It was an awesome match. Daniel Carter kicked a fantastic goal. The crowd went wild. The final score was 17-24 to the All Blacks of course.
